Just saw this on Twitter from Luke Russert (@RussertXM_NBC) who is turning out to be a great young reporter and looks so much like his dad it could break your heart.

From the FRC website (which you can look up yourself because I don’t want to add to their web trafffic)…

Given the seemingly incessant scandal, ethical wavering, and lack of moral backbone in Washington today, it’s no surprise that politicians are generally not held in high esteem.  What is surprising is that politicians are not held up nearly enough in prayer.  Whereas the Bible instructs us that “supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, [should] be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority,” (1 Timothy 2:1-2), I pledge to pray for America’s elected officials at least once per week.

That 1 Timothy thing?  That’s from a book written by a former tax collector named Saul who claimed to have a change of heart and wrote a bunch of letters that found their way into the Bible, and now he’s quoted as if he were God, and not some tax collector named Saul from Tarses.

And why Jim DeMint?

Recently Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) has come under attack from both left wing groups and establishment Republicans because he has refused to waver in his defense of the family. When liberals gang up on a principled leader, doing what is right can seem like a lonely effort.

Senator DeMint need not feel alone in his convictions – stand with Americans across the nation as we pray for Senator Jim DeMint.

Those damn liberals and “establishment Republicans.”  And, well, YEAH!  You NEED at the VERY LEAST a million people all praying at the same time to get God’s attention.  I mean with all those planets and comets whizzing around and gravity to maintain, not to mention all the other “being God” duties we don’t even KNOW about, it’s hard to imagine that the simple prayer of one person could be heard by such a powerful, omnipotent Being.

No, you wanna get his ATTENTION!  And a million white Christian Republicans praying for God to help Jim DeMint help them keep their money and not have to help the poor people… you just KNOW that’s gonna raise a racket!  And God will give them whatever they want just to shut them the hell up!

See, Pat Robertson knows about the power of prayer.  He urged the viewers of his Christian Broadcasting Network to pray REAL HARD and LOUD so that God would divert a hurricane away from his Virginia studios!  They did!  And HE did!  The hurricane hit further up the coast where it killed a bunch of less-righteous folks in New England, where a lot of Jews live.

So it’s GOOD that the Family Research Council is organizing a million people to pray for Senator DeMint.   Our Almighty Lord in Heaven knows that a million good, conservative, white, American Christians would NEVER pray for something that would fill their pockets at the expense of their brothers and sisters who aren’t as well off.

Besides, I looked up the writings of Saul of Tarses, and couldn’t find a single thing he wrote to support liberal causes.

There WAS a bunch of liberal claptrap EARLIER in the Bible from this long-haired dude who used to wander from place to place preaching his liberal message…

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. [Matthew 5:9]  Resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. [Matthew 5:39]  I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despite-fully use you, and persecute you; [Matthew 5:44]

And he had this thing about people who make a big production out of praying.

And when thou pray, thou shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.  But thou, when thou pray, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret…[Matthew 6:6 & 7]

And a bunch of liberal nonsense about community…

Love your neighbor as yourself…[Matthew 22:39]  So in everything, do to others as you would have them do to you. [Matthew 7:12.]  If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. [Matthew 19:21]

Huh!  Just like commie fascist Nazi Obama, who was ALSO a community organizer.

Well… back then, the authorities knew what to DO with liberal rabble rousers like this…this… what was his name again?

(Editor’s Note:  A story about another brave brain surgery volunteer.)

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) April 15, 2009

What would prompt someone to say “Let’s stick wires into someone’s brain, run voltage through it, and see what happens!”? So asks activist and author Jackie Hunt Christensen in her important new book, LIFE WITH A BATTERY-OPERATED BRAIN: A Patient‘s Guide to Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery for Parkinson’s Disease (Langdon Street Press; April 2009; ISBN 978-1-934938-26-3; $ 16.95).

Beyond answering the “whys” that arise in considering Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery, Hunt Christensen offers her unique perspective in this comprehensive book. LIFE WITH A BATTERY-OPERATED BRAIN (www.lifewithbobbook.com) is designed to be a highly readable guide for people with Parkinson’s disease (PD), exploring the benefits of this particular surgery on many motor symptoms of the disease. “Deep Brain Stimulation is a process, not an event,” explains Hunt Christensen.

The author has firsthand knowledge of the procedure more commonly referred to as “DBS” and lived with Parkinson’s disease for more than seven years before electing to be evaluated for DBS surgery. Ultimately, she was deemed a good candidate for the surgery, and DBS seemed like her only logical option–a choice that has been validated post-surgery, as Christensen now enjoys life with most of her motor symptoms well controlled. Parkinson’s disease, the author is quick to point out, does not end, but DBS is meant to be a long-term treatment.

Now Jackie Hunt Christensen offers readers a resource that was previously unavailable: a step-by-step look at her own journey, as well as information on a typical evaluation process, medical statistics, questions to ask neurosurgeons, opinions from other DBS patients, the programming process for DBS, and much more.

“I wrote this book as way of giving back to the community,” Hunt Christensen said. “DBS has given me back so much of my life! I want to share what I’ve learned from my own experience and others’ to help inform the decisions being made every day by others looking for those same results.”

LIFE WITH A BATTERY-OPERATED BRAIN is a must-read for those who are considering Deep Brain Stimulation–and for those who love them. Health professionals can also benefit from reading the book, as certain diagnostic tools and therapies may not be safe for use on DBS patients or require specific precautions.

Being released by Langdon Street Press today, LIFE WITH A BATTERY-OPERATED BRAIN will be available in bookstores and online at Life With a Battery-Operated Brain or Amazon.com.

Jackie Hunt Christensen is also the author of The First Year: Parkinson’s Disease, An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed and has published numerous articles and editorials regarding both Parkinson’s and environmental issues. In 2006, she won the Milly Kondracke Award for Outstanding Advocacy from the Parkinson’s Action Network in Washington, DC.

Jackie, her husband, and two sons ages 17 and 12, reside in Minneapolis.

(Editor’s note:  For those contemplating Deep Brain Stimulation for treatment of their Parkinson’s disease symptoms, here’s some more information.)

The procedure known as deep brain stimulation involves the implanting of a brain pacemaker. The brain pacemaker is a medical device that sends electrical impulses targeting specific regions of the patient‘s brain.

About Deep Brain Stimulation:

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has shown remarkable therapeutic benefits when administered to certain regions of the brain; especially in treatment resistant movement and affective disorders. Some of these disorders that can benefit from deep brain stimulation are: Parkinson‘s Disease, chronic pain, dystonia, tremor, etc. Effects of deep brain stimulation directly changes brain activity in a controlled manner and effects are reversible.

There are three aspects that make up the complete deep brain stimulation procedure: implanted pulse generator (IPG), the lead and the extension. The IPG is the neurostimulator (battery powered). It is enclosed in a titanium housing and sends electrical pulses to the brain that interfere with neural activity in the target location. The “lead” is an insulated, coil wire with platinum electrodes (4). It is placed in one of three regions of the brain. The lead is connected to the IPG. The IPG and the lead are connected by the extension. The extension is an insulated wire that runs from the head along the neck and behind the ear. The IPG is placed subcutaneously below the clavicle or the abdomen. A neurologist or other medical professional can calibrate the IPG. Correct calibration ensures that symptom suppression as a result of treatment is optimized and that any potential side effects are controlled.

DBS (or deep brain stimulation) leads are placed specifically depending upon the symptoms that the medical professional is trying to treat. For instance if the medical professional is attempting to treat a non-Parkinsonian essential tremor the lead would be located in the ventrointermedial nucleus (of the thalamus). For cases of Dystonia or Parkinson’s with symptoms of rigidity, tremor and bradykinesia/akinesia) the lead is placed in the subthalamic nucleus or globus pallidus.

The three aspects of deep brain stimulation work together. They are surgically implanted into the patient’s body. The surgical implant is done under local anesthesia. A hole is created (14 mm in diameter) by drilling into the patient’s skull. This is where the electrode is inserted (patient feedback will ensure optimal placement). The IPG and lead is done under general anesthesia.

Recovery from Deep Brain Stimulation:

DBS is approved by the FDA as a treatment for essential tremor, Parkinson’s disease and dystonia. The treatment is also accessed fairly often for treatment of chronic pain as well as affective disorders. DBS has the potential for severe complications and the possibility of side effects. Patients should discuss these possibilities thoroughly with a specialist prior to beginning any treatment.
